AI notary assistant for document drafting: what it can and can’t do

AI can shorten the time it takes to produce a first draft. It cannot take responsibility for the document. This guide explains what Notary Assist AI does inside Notary Assistant, where it falls short, and how to use it safely.

What can AI do for a notary office?

An AI drafting assistant can write a first draft of a standard document from a short instruction, edit an existing draft when you ask for a change, and fill in party names, addresses and ID details already recorded on the registration. It saves typing and retyping. It does not check the law and it can make mistakes, so the notary must review every document.

What Notary Assist AI does

  • Composes a draft from the document type and your instructions, for example an affidavit, a rent agreement or a declaration.
  • Edits by chat. Ask it to add a clause, change a date or amount, or remove a paragraph, and the document in the editor is updated.
  • Fills in the parties. It replaces generic placeholders such as “Second Party” or blank lines with the names, addresses and ID details of the parties already registered, matched to their roles.
  • Handles English, Hindi and Marathi text. Quality can vary by language and document, so read Hindi and Marathi output especially carefully.

What it cannot do

  • It cannot give legal advice. It is instructed to say when it is unsure of a jurisdiction-specific rule rather than guess, but it is not a lawyer and does not know every state’s requirements.
  • It can be wrong. A clause may be missing, a figure or date may be mistaken, or wording may not suit your document. Always read the final text in full.
  • It does not publish or certify anything. Nothing is notarized until the notary reviews the registration and publishes it.

How Notary Assist AI keeps the notary in control

  • Opt-in per office. AI is switched on only for offices that choose it.
  • Stays on legal drafting. The assistant is instructed to handle only legal and notarial drafting for the platform and to decline unrelated requests.
  • Output is cleaned. AI-generated markup is sanitised before it appears in the editor.
  • You edit before you publish. The draft lands in the same editor you use for any document, ready for your review and changes.

What happens to the data you send?

To generate or edit a draft, the document text, your instructions and the registered parties’ details are sent to a third-party AI model provider, and the response comes back to Notary Assistant. Nothing is sent for offices that do not use AI. Your confidentiality duties to your clients still apply, so treat AI prompts like any other place where client information is handled.

How it fits into a registration

  1. Start the registration and choose the document type.
  2. Add the parties, so the assistant knows their details and roles.
  3. Ask the assistant to draft or edit the document, and refine it by chatting.
  4. Read, correct and approve the final text.
  5. Capture each party’s photo, fingerprint and signature, then publish.

Cost

AI is an add-on to the core platform. It costs ₹5 for each registration in which AI is used, on top of the ₹50 per registration for the core platform. See pricing.

Drafting aid, not legal advice. The notary reviews the final document and remains responsible for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Notary Assist AI an AI notary service?

No. It is a drafting assistant inside notary software: it writes and edits document text for the notary to review. It does not notarize anything. A notary still performs and certifies every notarization, and Notary Assistant is not an online or AI notarization service for the public.

Does AI replace a lawyer or the notary?

No. It is a drafting aid. The notary reviews the document and carries the legal responsibility for the notarization.

Is an AI-drafted document legally valid?

Validity depends on the document, the applicable law and the notary’s review, not on whether AI helped write it. Notary Assistant does not guarantee the legal validity of any document, whether AI-assisted or not.

Can I use AI for Hindi and Marathi documents?

Yes, the assistant works with Hindi and Marathi text. Output quality can vary, so read it carefully before publishing.

Do I have to use AI?

No. AI is optional and switched on per office. Everything else in Notary Assistant works without it.
